We stress choosing the right plants for the location, water conservation, the responsible use of fertilizers and pesticides, along with providing habitat for wildlife.

This class is Free but registration is required by Tuesday, September 7th. Saturday, September 11, 2010 9:00am- 10:30 amLocation: Pinellas County ExtensionThis grant-funded program comes to you at no cost!Do you think making compost out of your yard waste is complicated?Join Dale Armstrong and Wilma Holley for this informative workshop to learn how easy it can be. Just add your kitchen scraps to your yard clippings and compost happens! Adding compost to Florida’s sandy soil provides much-needed organic material and nutrients while improving its water-holding capacity. Recycling your yard waste by turning it into compost rather than sending it to the landfill is a sustainable practice!To get you started, attendees will receive one compost bin per household courtesy of Pinellas County Utilities Solid Waste Operations Department. This Grant-Funded program is free.

Learn about the differences in various stinging insects. Mr. Simkins will provide info on how to keep safe from Africanized bees and other potentially aggressive insects. This class is free.

By attending this workshop you will learn how save that water in a recycled plastic barrel for later use. The collected water is safe for use on your potted plants, vegetable and herb gardens, and special plant collections. All attendees will receive set-up instructions and a reference booklet for free. Advance registration for this free class and pre-payment for rain barrels required. Your rain barrel will be available for pick up on the day of the class if you choose “Participant with Rain Barrel” on step 4 of the registration process. You have a choice of one or two barrels. If you do not want to purchase a rain barrel please select “Participant” by using the drop down arrow. Rain Barrels are $30 plus tax.
