Our educational programs encourage the use of Florida-Friendly landscape practices that promote the sustainable preservation of Florida's fragile environment. We stress choosing the right plants for the location, water conservation, the responsible use of fertilizers and pesticides, along with providing habitat for wildlife.
NOTE CHANGE EFFECTIVE July 2, 2009 Registration for all classes closes 24 hours prior to the class. No “Day of” registrations will be made. For classes held at the Extension Office please, view our map. Directions to all other classes are included in the last step of the reservation process. This useful information will help gardeners dig right into improving landscape design and maintenance.This class is intended as a follow-up to the February 2 Concepts of Landscape Design class or to those who may have designed landscape plans on their own and would like to attend just this class. Landscape designers will be on hand to review your plans and ideas as well as assess plant selections based upon the design principle of Right Plant/Right Place. Plant selection, installation, and establishment procedures will also be discussed. Price: $15.00

Recycling your yard waste by turning it into compost rather than sending it to the landfill is a sustainable practice!To get you started, attendees will receive one compost bin per household courtesy of Pinellas County Utilities Solid Waste Operations Department. This Grant-Funded program is free.

UF/IFAS Master Gardener John Hood presents an overview of bromeliads, covering everything you need to know from the different types, their sizes and growth habits as well as how to care for them, propagate, pot and mount them. Bromiliads do quite well in a Florida landscape requiring very little care and thrive in shady locations. This class is free.
